Bath Salts (MDPV)*

MDPV, sold as "bath salts" or "legal highs", is described as being like amphetamine/ecstasy and has caused global concern from healthcare providers and legal authorities due to the alarming severity of the effects caused by their abuse. The use of New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) such as MDPV, has become more widespread due to these drugs being widely available on the Internet and high street shops. Methylenedioxypyrovalerone (MDPV) is structurally derived from the 2-amino-1-phenyl-1-propanone by substitution in the phenyl ring with an alkylenedioxy substituent, by substitution at the 3-position with an alkyl substituent and by inclusion of the nitrogen atom in a cyclic structure.
