The drug problem is continuing to grow in Australia, with an ongoing methamphetamine crisis. Methamphetamine, also known as “meth” or “ice”, has become the drug of choice for many due to a readily available supply and variety of recipes online. Cheaper than its primary stimulant competitor cocaine, meth is an extremely powerful and addictive binge drug.

The National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre documented that meth users have tripled over the past five years, a number which continues to rapidly grow within the younger community. Health Direct reported that more than 40% of Australians over the age of 14 have used illicit drugs in their lifetime, with more than a quarter of illicit drugs having been abused each year by people in their 20s.

An additional report by SBS stated that 70% of Australian drug related deaths are due to prescription drug abuse.
