California Drug Problem
Drug addiction is a problem for people in every community in the United States and people of all ages, gender and cultures are affected. California is home to 37,253,956 citizens, making it the most populous state in America and it is estimated that 3 million people are addicted to illegal drugs.
Drug abuse is the number one premature killer in California and the most popular drugs are heroin, prescription painkillers and methamphetamines. Approximately, there are 40,000 emergency room visits each year in relation to drug abuse.
Driving under the influence of drugs also continues to be an increasing problem in California. Car accidents was the second premature death cause in the state, of which many were a result of driving under the influence of drugs. In fact, 3/10 fatal car accidents involved illegal drug use.
