The MultiSTAT, acquired through Opioid Settlement Funds, is designed to deliver rapid, reliable toxicology results in as little as 20 minutes. This advancement empowers coroners and medical examiners to provide families with answers in real-time, rather than waiting weeks for traditional lab results.
Mark Smith, Carbon County Coroner, highlighted the transformative impact of the technology: “We’re looking at maybe 30 minutes of prep time and another 30 minutes for analysis. The big advantage is that it gives families answers versus waiting six weeks for toxicology results.”
This speed not only brings closure to grieving families but also enhances investigative efficiency. In one recent case, the MultiSTAT helped rule out drug involvement within hours, allowing the team to pivot quickly to an autopsy that revealed natural causes, saving time, resources, and unnecessary procedures.
Carbon County now joins Lehigh and Bucks Counties in deploying Randox’s cutting-edge toxicology solutions. With three dedicated technicians on staff, the coroner’s office is equipped to support law enforcement with timely insights that can guide investigations from the outset.
