How Faster Toxicology Results Can Help Raise Awareness of Harmful Drugs in Local Counties.

With an uptake in the trend of overdoses in recent years Greenville country coroners decided to make a difference on the front end of this issue instead of the back end when it’s too late. They want to create more awareness to the public about drugs that are in the area

Greenville News reported that the Greenville County Coroner’s Office has acquired a new substance identification system with the help of a $102,000 grant from the Upstate Healthcare Coalition. The Randox Evidence MultiSTAT is expected to raise awareness about the presence of drugs in the area. This system will assist the department in identifying the types of drugs appearing in post-mortem samples.

“The Evidence MultiSTAT allows the coroner’s office to provide more information on overdoses and spread awareness more quickly”Greenville County Deputy Coroner, Shelton England.

The coroner’s office currently relies on the National Medical Laboratory System to conduct toxicology reports. However, this system can only provide a percentage of substances found in a deceased body. In contrast, the Evidence MultiSTAT can determine whether a specific substance is present in a person’s body, yielding a positive or negative result and producing faster reports.

“It provides real-time data. Currently, you have to wait 12 weeks before you can hear back with the results. With this, we’re getting results within a day or two,” England stated when talking about the Evidence MultiSTAT.

In order to help the industry Randox toxicology have developed Biochip Array Technology, an immunoassay testing platform allowing for the simultaneous multi-analyte testing of a panel of related tests. The technology is used on the Evidence MultiSTAT analyzer provides real-time data allowing for faster results so that families can get information quickly, Helps monitor substance abuse trends worldwide and assists in alerting local authorities to a rise of dangerous drugs in their communities while aiding in data-driven decision-making.

The Evidence MultiSTAT is an easy-to-use, fully automated benchtop analyzer that provides on-site simultaneous detection of up to 29 classical, prescription, and synthetic drugs from a single sample across a variety of matrices delivering immediate drug testing results and real-time data to pathologists, coroners, law enforcement and medical providers.
